People gather in the streets to voice support for the Big Blue March campaign which calls for an end to commercial whaling. Protesters hold banners and inflatable blue whales. This is a global campaign and people participated in protests at over 50 locations all over the world. The International Whaling Commission (IWC) opens in Anchorage, Alaska on the 28th May. More than 70 nations will attend this meeting which will focus on various aspects of the whaling industry to implement future regulations on the hunting of the species and its conservation. Present at the campaign in Buenos Aires was Gerd Leipold, Greenpeace International Executive Director.
