The MV GREENPEACE confronted two Italian fishing boats operating with illegal driftnets 20 miles west of the Island of San Pietro in Sardinia. The DUCA DEGLI ABRUZZI and the ANTONIO P had been monitored from the Greenpeace ship since early the night before and their nets had been measured by radar and found to be longer than 5 km, twice as long as the 2.5 km legally established by the European Union.
