The plastic pollution of the world's seas is a nightmare. In the world, 300 million tons of plastic are produced annually, and approximately 8 million tons of plastic waste enter the sea each year. In some places around the world, the plastic pollution has been extremely severe with catastrophic effects on the environment and people.

One of the spots in the world where plastic pollution is worst is Manila Bay, Philippines. “Ocean plastic” is one of the scourges for humankind and its magnitude is hard to conceive. Decisive actions at iconic places are needed to make the severity of the issue comprehensible and to open up thoughts and actions for shifting mindsets and behavior.

In September 2017, Greenpeace together with partners embarked on coastal clean-up movement activity in Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia, to coincide with the International Coastal Clean-up Month.
