Shoot: Banner Action at Connecticut Coal Plant
GP02AQM
Greenpeace activists hang a 40ft. x 20ft. banner at the Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station that reads, "Shut it Down - Quit Coal." The Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station emits more than a million tons of carbon dioxide per year, and is an ageing, inefficient plant that endangers the health of Bridgeport residents, including the children attending the six schools located within a one mile radius. The activists are sending a message that dirty coal plants are responsible for thousands of deaths in America every year and are destroying our planet. Nationwide, smokestack pollution from coal-fired power plants kills more than 13,000 people per year according to the Clean Air Task Force - a rate of one person every forty minutes. The protest comes as the Greenpeace ship Arctic Sunrise undertakes the East Coast leg of the Coal Free Future Tour.
