A group of veterans of recent US wars gathered in the Senator John McCain's office to demand that he reject former ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson, President-Elect Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State. Ranging from concerns over Exxon’s collaboration with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other authoritarian regimes, to the threat of climate change due to increased oil extraction, to criticisms of Tillerson’s dismissal of key diplomatic tactics as limits to Exxon’s business, the veterans’ rationale combined reflections of their experiences serving overseas with the specter of a Rex Tillerson-led foreign policy.
